AKWA IBOM WATER COMPANY LIMITED
The Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited was established in February, 2001. Before the creation of Akwa Ibom State on the 23rd of September, 1987, what is now Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited was known as Cross River State Water Board, with its Headquarters in Calabar, Cross River State. It had Zonal Offices in some key towns on the Mainland (Akwa Ibom State) which include Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Oron, Itu, Eket, Etinan and Ikot Abasi.
When Akwa Ibom State was created in 1987, there was an urgent need to ensure the continuous supply of potable water to the citizens and residents of the newly created state. The Akwa Ibom State Government enacted Edit No. 9 of 1988 which formally established the Akwa Ibom State Water Corporation, now defunct.
As part of measures to access assistance from international Development Agencies to provide effective and efficient service delivery, Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited was incorporated in February, 2001 under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990 with Headquarters at #62 Dominic Utuk Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Its MISSION is to provide potable water to urban and semi urban (small towns) communities of Akwa Ibom State in an efficient manner with a view to achieving continuous self-sustenance for the benefit of stakeholders.
The VISION of the Company is to remain the leading provider of potable water with quality that meets international standards.
To achieve its mission and vision, Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited operates an organized network that spans (13) area offices, with each area office providing services to water consumers in a number of urban and semi urban areas that are linked by the distribution network within the control of a particular area office. A typical area office operation centres around the supply of water from pumping stations, the connection of water consumers, the billing of water consumers for services provided and the collection of revenue.
