WATER ENGINEERING SERVICES
This Department handles the production of water on a continuous basis and ensures that the water quality meets the standards of the World Health Organisation. Its function therefore, constitutes the core services of the Company.
Administration of the Department
The administrative and professional leadership of Water Engineering Services is exercised by a top Manager known as General Manager (GM). The GM runs the Department with other managers in charge of the Sections of the Department. Currently, Engr. Bassey Emana Unung is covering duties for the office of the GM. A native of Okopedi Okobo, Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Unung is Corporate Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers and COREN registered Engineer.
Sections in the Department
Planning, Design and Construction: Quality Control; Operation/ Monitoring; and Hydrology are the four sections of the Department of Water Engineering Services.
- Planning, Design and Construction: This section undertakes production of engineering drawings, feasibility studies for water resources development projects and supervision, construction of water works amongst others. currently, it is headed by Engr. Bassey Unung.
- Quality Control: Using laboratory apparatus, this section analyses and treats water sources in order to ensure pollution free water and to prevent the deterioration of water quality. The current Manager of the Section is Mrs. Kate Otobong Akpabio. She holds a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) degree in Applied Chemistry and a, post graduate diploma in Environmental Management.
- Operation/Monitoring: This entails the supervision/ assessment of the Area Offices and conduct of periodic surveillance of water distribution in the Area Offices with a view to ensuring adequate facilities and effective service delivery. The section is managed by Mr. Kufre Okon Essien. Mr. Essien holds a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Hydrology: This section provides professional and managerial support in drilling, development and maintenance of boreholes. It also provides consultancy services on borehole related issues to fee paying clients.
AREA OFFICES
Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited has thirteen (13) Area Offices with their respective heads addressed as Area Managers. Though the Area Offices are closely supervised by the Department of Water Engineering Services, their Managers act as representatives of the MD/CEO in their respective Area Offices.
